Our Team
We are a biotechnology team based in Tangerang, Indonesia. This team consists of students from Sinarmas World Academy, ranging from Grade 9 to Grade 11. Even though our team has a significantly large range when it comes to age, our passion for Biology unites us all, thus forming a compact team.
Our goal is to learn about and practice engineering principles in biology (synthetic biology), fostering interest in the subject at our school and developing a project for iGEM! Synthetic Biology builds on what we have learnt in class syllabuses but goes beyond this. We get to anticipate new and fun activities that will boost not only our knowledge, but also fuel our passion for Biology and Engineering. |

Chris Hayden
Greetings! My name is Chris Hayden and I teach Biology at Sinarmas World Academy in Jakarta, Indonesia. I'm originally from Los Angeles, California and have been teaching Science in Indonesia for the last 8 years. Before teaching, I was involved in Molecular Phylogenetics research- working on reptile & amphibian evolution in SE Asia. We are very excited to participate in the BioBuilder Program this year and I am very proud to have so many talented students interested in Synthetic Biology from our school. We are working with an Indonesian research institute called PUSPIPTEK who are allowing us to use their laboratories and providing training as well. We plan to send a team to the high school division of the International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) Competition in October 2017. We would love to hear from other schools in SE Asia interested in Synthetic Biology and have a strong desire to collaborate!

Jocelyn Dunn Hoi Yin
Hey! My name is Jocelyn Dunn and I am a Grade 11 student in Sinarmas World Academy. I am a huge enthusiast for anything related to the natural sciences and take every opportunity for me to develop my knowledge and refine it. Out of the 3 natural sciences, I am most interested in Biology and Chemistry, which encourages me to aim for a medical career in the future. I have loved anything related to the living ever since I was in elementary school!
Being able to be a part of SWA's first BioTech club is a great honour and I am positive that it will be a great experience that I will never forget. Also, I am sure that the knowledge I acquire in this club will be valuable for my dream of being a doctor. |
Chloe Koh
My name is Chloe Koh and I am a Grade 11 student. I joined SWA’s biotech club because I’ve been interested and very enthusiastic about Biology-related topics for 3 years. In addition, studying medicine and becoming a doctor in the future is my dream, so I was hoping to get some experience through this club. The first time I heard about biotechnology was last year, and I knew I was interested in the topic ever since. I hope to learn more about biotechnology this year and be able to use what I learn from the club in the future!
